FAQ
Do I need an EIN to report my 2290 taxes online?
When it comes to filing your form 2290 for your vehicle(s) the IRS requires you to file under an EIN. This doesn't mean that you need to necessarily have an LLC setup or complicate your current business if you don't. It just means that you need to apply for an EIN. The IRS makes this very easy and at the end of the application process, you will be provided with an EIN. Click this link to apply for an EIN.
Now once you do get your EIN, it does take the IRS at least 15 days to make your EIN available to be used for e-filing returns. Even though you won't be able to use your EIN to e-file your 2290 immediately, most of the time it is faster if you wait versus mailing it.
Here locally in Nevada, an appointment at our local IRS office can take up to 45 days to get.
This mostly applies to small fleet owners or individual owner-operators that are sole proprietors. So if you don't already have an EIN, get that process started and we hope that we can help you file your Form 2290 very soon.
